ImageDear Faculty,

As we settle into the 2016-17 academic year, we are keenly focused on supporting campus priorities by clearly aligning the Libraries' Strategic Plan with UCI's Strategic Plan. The Libraries' Leadership Council has been working hard to integrate our annual planning process with the new plan and to develop initiatives that advance the strategic goals of the campus.

One of our Strategic Goals is to promote diversity and pursue inclusive excellence. Internally, we are experiencing great progress on this goal with our Diversity Committee and through a number of initiatives related to the Libraries' Diversity Plan. These initiatives include a Libraries' Diversity Blog and the reinstitution of the Bridging the Gap Program to help bridge work-culture gaps that often exist and ultimately to foster a climate where all library employees and users feel welcomed, valued, and respected..

Lastly, in partnership with UCI Graduate Division, we recently celebrated National Open Access Week (Oct. 24-28, 2016) with the release of UCI Electronic Theses and Dissertations (ETDs) in eScholarship, the Open-Access repository for the University of California. Open Access ETDs benefit graduate students by making their work available faster and more widely, which leads to higher visibility, usage, and citation rates.

In coming weeks, the Libraries will host workshops on how to utilize the new ETD services and are available for consultation on the advantages of making UCI research available via Open Access.
