Dog Days Alleviate Student Stress

During Dog Days, librarians helped students understand that effective research skills can help reduce stress
The UCI Libraries provided a fun loving way to help students reduce their anxiety during finals by partnering with a local therapy dog organization, Paws 4 Healing, to bring a number of kind canines to campus this past year.

ImageStudents had the opportunity to take a break from their studies to pet and enjoy a variety of dogs of all shapes and sizes in the Libraries’ Gateway Plaza. Librarians were available nearby to promote the Libraries' Ask a Librarian services and answer questions about using the Libraries.

Students are often stressed due to procrastination and uncertainty in how to use the Libraries’ extensive services and resources to complete a successful project or paper. During Dog Days, librarians helped students understand that effective research skills can help reduce stress, particularly during the last weeks of the quarter when research papers and projects are due.

The Libraries’ Dog Days proved so popular with students that we are going to make this a regular event during Week 8 of each quarter.
