The Picture Post: An Exciting New Online Resource
The Picture Post Historical Archive from Gale is the complete full color archive of the news magazine from 1938-1957. The magazine was very popular during its time, selling more than 1.7 million copies a week.
Topics covered extensively are domestic concerns, race, immigration, and popular culture. Also featured heavily are World War II and the Korean War. There are some poignant photos of the resiliency of the British people after the Blitz and some searing images of the aftermath of the Battle of Inchon during the Korean War.
On a lighter note, a user can read articles about searching for the Loch Ness Monster and flying saucers, or the rise and fall of football teams, movie stars, and fashion trends. The advertisements can be a rich trove for researchers as well.
