ANTswers Chatbot Now Live!

ImageThe Libraries unveiled an innovative new service called ANTswers this spring. ANTswers is an experimental chatbot that answers questions about the UC Irvine Libraries and will save you time by quickly and efficiently connecting you to the information or resource you need. ANTswers is one of several library chatbots that are currently available internationally.

How does it work? Library users will be able to interact with ANTswers using simple and short questions. ANTswers will then provide recommendations to library web pages by providing links. For example, ANTswers may recommend a search in ANTPAC if a patron wants to know how to find books on a topic, it may recommend a specific database if a patron needs journal articles, or it may connect a user to information about requesting a book via Interlibrary Loan.

The library will monitor the logs and if ANTswers is unable to answer a question we will add information to improve its responses. By asking questions and interacting with ANTswers library users will enable us to refine and grow the ANTswers database. Help us make ANTswers great!

ANTswers was developed using Artificial Intelligence Mark-up Language (AIML) and Program-O. You can find more information about AIML and Program-O.
